Welcome to Fluid Truck’s Trucker Spotlight blog! We love highlighting our awesome employees and introducing you to the great people behind Fluid Truck.
At Fluid Truck, our product is people. We bring in smart, talented people with a lot of ambition and give them the opportunity to grow and expand their skill sets rapidly. Our end goal is to equip every person who joins our team with the skills they need to one day grow beyond us and create incredible things on their own.
Sound like a place you’d like to work? We’re always hiring. Learn more about our employees here on the Employee Spotlight blog. Interviews are edited for clarity.
This month’s Employee Spotlight centers on Vera Z, Fluid Truck’s Fleet Management Support team leader. As you can probably imagine, Fluid Truck has to keep track of many hundreds of vehicles across the entire country. So, we need an exceptional team of fleet managers. Vera’s team works with fleet managers to make sure the fleet is safe, tidy, technically sound, and working properly. The fleet management support team also covers internal support, and oversees vehicle movements.
What’s your favorite part of your job?
Probably the people that I work with, because they make every situation light and funny. I get to work with people from so many different places. In the worst meeting, someone will crack a joke and that makes everything worth it. You have to make fun of yourself and of situations. Everyone’s very hard working, but we can laugh a little bit and enjoy each other’s company.
And also for me, I’ve had a lot of growing opportunities. Everyone trusts me a lot and trusts my ideas. So I got to do so much – I’ve gone to Denver twice, I’ve gotten to meet everyone. Opportunities are all around. If you wait a little bit and take whatever gets thrown your way, you can grow a lot. That’s crazy and amazing!
When you aren’t working, what are you usually doing?
I like to be with my friends and skate on my longboard. I actually studied film so I love watching films and taking pictures. And I’m a Lakers fan so I enjoy watching the NBA! I like going out too.
Do you support any sports teams?
Of course I’m a big soccer person because I’m Argentinian – so I am a Boca fan [like Fran, last month’s employee spotlight!] And I also watch anything where Messi is playing. I was also a professional field hockey player in another life so I watch a lot of field hockey as well.
What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
“If you want something, ask for it” – Leo [Fluid Truck’s COO] told me in Italian and it sounded wonderful. If you ask and the response you get isn’t great, that’s probably not the place you should be anyway. People value other people here. If I can help them, I will.
Any secret talents?
I can lick my elbow! And I’m also a barista – I make great coffee. Not many people know that. I was a barista for one year and a half in Australia.
Do you have a favorite line from a movie or book?
“Ser cobarde es mucho peor” – Pedro Lemebel, Chilean novelist and activist.
It could be translated to, “Being a coward is much worse.”
If you could have a Fluid Truck full of one thing, what would it be?
Dogs! Puppies. If I could have a fluid truck full of puppies I would love that. Imagine opening the door and a bunch of puppies are just there waiting. I would die!
If you had a TED Talk, what would it be about?
How to make the best sandwich – I have a lot to say about that. People don’t understand how special a sandwich can be and SHOULD be. It has to be MOIST. Things that have to be dry, need to be dry. The mixture has to be different with a special place for each ingredient. And it shouldn’t fall apart. This would be a great TED Talk!
Why would you tell someone to come work at Fluid Truck?
Go for it and be ready for craziness, but also learning a lot every day and meeting amazing people. At the end of the day, if you don’t like working here, at least you will be left with lots of new friends.
