This week’s Trucker Spotlight centers on Sofia, Fluid Truck’s HR Specialist based in Buenos Aires, Argentina. From her favorite local cafes to her passion for creating a welcoming workplace, Sofia brings a unique blend of enthusiasm and expertise to our team. Her insights into HR and her personal touch in fostering a positive work environment make her an invaluable asset to Fluid Truck.
What’s your favorite part of your job?
Since I'm in HR, I get to do a little bit of everything. I'm restless and I love being everywhere and learning from everyone and all the different people.
When you aren’t working, what are you usually doing?
You can find me in a cafe with a book. I love how many cafes we have here in BA! I'm a huge fan of medialunas!
I love them, so I'll be in a cafe with coffee and a medialuna. I also make my own clothes! So I'm either out pretending to be a tourist or making my own clothes with a sewing machine. I'm like an old lady.
Do you have any secret talents?
I'm a psychologist -- I think I can read people's minds!
What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Work smarter, not harder. That's my work motto. For instance, there was a time that I had to send some contracts. It was like 100 contracts that I might have to do manually. I was like, “no way! There must be an easy to do this,” So I found an AppsScript on YouTube and I was able to automate it. It saved so much time.
If I had to give someone advice, I'd say to be curious, and if you're lucky enough to be surrounded by people who know how to do their job -- learn from them. Even if it's not related directly to your work scope, try to learn from them!
If you could have a Fluid Truck full of one thing, what would it be?
Gummy bears and medialunas.
What’s your favorite snack?
Gummy bears... And medialunas! People here make fun of me because when we host an event I'm like, “We should get medialunas for everyone!”
What motivates you at work?
This is related to what I studied –– I'm a psychologist specialized in labor psychology. We are working for 8 hours. My motivation is to make fluid a place that is comfortable, and people are encouraged. And that it doesn't feel like work, people feel welcome and we create an environment where people can thrive. Creating a good work environment where there's plenty of learning opportunities!
If you had a TED Talk, what would it be about?
Not knowing how to cook and getting away with it. I make people around me make my meals!
Do you have a guilty pleasure?
Going out of my house to drink a good coffee and a medialuna. That's what I live for!
What would you tell someone who wants to come work at Fluid Truck?
If you're restless and you enjoy the challenges and want to learn, Fluid Truck is a great place for it. I choose to work here for the learning opportunities. I've been here for around three years, and I've learned and grown so much in my position. Fluid Truck is a great place for young people and even older people to learn and grow in their careers.
